NCBI Description

Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor proteins are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) arising from single coding-exon genes. Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. The nomenclature assigned to the olfactory receptor genes and proteins for this organism is independent of other organisms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Odorant receptor. Activated by a lily-derived aldehyde as well as other odorants. May signal through an inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) second messenger system. Ref.1 Ref.4

Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

Tissue specificity: Olfactory epithelium. Ref.1

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Olfactory receptor 1 (Olfr1), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
